Gene Douglas Davis
Gene Douglas Davis, 72 of Roanoke Rapids, NC passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2020.
He was born in Halifax County in February 7th of 1947.
Gene was a Husband , Father, Brother, Granddaddy, Great Granddaddy, Colonel and Friend which were just a few of the many titles he held. He was a faithful husband to his wife Delbra Hancock Davis for 51 years , a loving father to Sherry Lynn Sorto and Betty Jean Flynn , wonderful grandfather to Kristen Ann Bolt and Timothy Alan Flynn, and blessed to be a great grandfather to Greyson Reid Bolt.
He was preceded in death by his mother Florence Hedgepeth Davis, father Raymond Davis "Goat", and his brothers Raymond Earl Davis "Rooster", Gerald Wayne Davis "Poss", and Donald Ray Davis "Dozzie".
In his younger days he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a very skilled softball player where he got MVP. He spent spare time in the pool room and bowling alley and won many trophies for it.
His favorite pass times were coffee in the morning with Delbra, watching sports, and seeing his grandchildren happy. His favorite time of year was Christmas morning he loved watching the excitement on everyone’s faces.
You never caught Gene without a ball cap, a pocket t-shirt on, and a gun ready to protect. He took pride in his family, pets, cigarettes, and his Busch light. Those were his ways and he was set in them. A filter he did not have, but at least everyone always knew what was on his mind.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services at 2pm with Pastor Jason Yeatts officiating.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Askew Funeral & Cremation Services from 6:00 until 7:30 pm.
